Eight languages, two degrees, one goal and the new alumni ambassador for Prague

Our young graduate Jan Krames – who completed his bachelor studies in International Business Management in September 2025 – is a prime example of building a truly international career and showing his strong connection to his alma mater: In October, Jan took over as the new ambassador for the Prague Alumni Chapter.

‘If you have the chance, do not hesitate to take it. I also had doubts at first, there were a lot of factors influencing my decision, but looking back, the double degree was one of the best decisions I’ve made,’ says Jan.

A global mindset from day one

For Jan, internationality was never just a study focus – it was a way of life. Fluent in seven languages – Czech, English, Spanish, German, French, Turkish, and Slovak – and with intermediate knowledge of Russian, he embodies the global perspective that defines the IMC Krems spirit.

Academic excellence across borders

Jan pursued a double degree in Export-oriented Management at IMC Krems and International Business at KEDGE Business School in France. He graduated with credit in September 2025, proving that academic ambition and global exposure go hand in hand.

Straight into practice

Hardly had he submitted his thesis when he was already applying his knowledge in practice: At KPMG Luxembourg, he supported international audit engagements, developed strong analytical and communication skills, and even challenged himself outside of work by completing a half-marathon. At LKW WALTER, he coordinated logistics between Spain and the Czech Republic, relying daily on his multilingual skills to connect with international partners. And on 1 October, Jan started at Deloitte Prague as a Consultant in Supply Chain Planning.

Beyond business: Sports and leadership

Jan’s journey is not limited to business. Since 2021, he has been part of SETKA CUP, an international table tennis organisation, where he combined professional sport with management responsibilities. He also became creative and initiated a project in collaboration with IMC Krems called OpenSpace, where students could gather, network across departments, play games, sing karaoke, and have fun. This later inspired the creation of today’s student clubs in Krems.

His experience in operations and communication enriched his leadership skills and underlined his passion for personal growth. His voluntary involvement at ESN Bordeaux, the IMC Krems Buddy Programme, ACCEDE (a student club at KEDGE Business School) and the Diplomatic Forum at his high school further strengthened his abilities.

Behind the scenes with Jan

What advice would you give to students considering a double degree — how can they make the most of studying in two countries?

If you have the chance, do not hesitate to take it. I also had doubts at first, there were a lot of factors influencing my decision, but looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Once you are accepted into a double degree, prepare for it. Do not underestimate the challenge. Learn the local language, get to know the culture, work on yourself, and immerse yourself fully by making friends from there rather than only hanging out with internationals. Do not always take the easier path — go the extra mile, whether in studying, building friendships, or exploring the country. After all, travelling and learning through new experiences is one of the most beautiful parts of student life.

How did your language skills shape your career opportunities, and what would you recommend to students who want to expand their linguistic horizons?

I landed both of my internships at LKW WALTER in Austria and KPMG Luxembourg largely thanks to my language skills. They opened doors that would otherwise have remained closed. Internships are key for students. They are among your first real work experiences, where you can show your interest, prove yourself, and if you do well, even receive a job offer.

Currently at Deloitte, I look forward to speaking several of my languages daily. I believe that learning a new language means discovering a new world and connecting more deeply with people. It gives you an edge not only in interviews and career opportunities, but also in your personal life.

My advice is: be curious. Start with basic grammar, then immerse yourself in videos, podcasts, and conversations. Surround yourself with people you can practise with. Today, it is easier than ever to learn a new language. You just need curiosity and discipline to start.

You moved directly from graduation into an international job — what mindset or preparation helped you achieve this smooth transition?

I planned everything in advance. I keep my eyes open and look for opportunities. When I spot something that interests me, I do some research, prepare what is necessary and then act. What also helps is being surrounded by the right people who support and care for you. Nevertheless, mindset plays a key role, since without a strong and dedicated mindset you will hardly succeed.

Looking ahead

Driven, multilingual, and globally oriented, Jan is determined to make a lasting impact in international business. His story shows how the IMC Krems double degree experience – with its focus on global networks and practical learning – equips graduates to step directly into international careers.
