Lower Austrian competence centre for recognition of foreign degrees

Recognition of foreign degrees

Our competence centre at the IMC Krems, funded by the province of Lower Austria, is responsible for the recognition of foreign degrees for registered occupations.

Your service centre for foreign degree recognition in Lower Austria

At our university of applied sciences, we handle applications for the recognition of foreign degrees from non-EU/EEA countries. Our team of experts evaluates degrees obtained abroad to determine their equivalence to domestic qualifications.

You can submit an application if recognition of your foreign degree is mandatory for working in your profession or continuing your education at an Austrian university. Please note that submitting the same application for foreign degree recognition simultaneously or after withdrawing from IMC Krems at another university of applied sciences is not permissible.

Recognition of foreign school degrees is not possible at our university. You can find information on this topic on the website of the Federal Ministry.

Degrees awarded in EU/EEA countries and Switzerland

For degrees obtained in EU and EEA countries, as well as Switzerland, professional recognition suffices. This recognition applies only to regulated professions and falls outside the purview of universities of applied sciences. The competent bodies for professional recognition can be found at www.berufsanerkennung.at/en.

We advise that for Musiktherapie even for EU/EAA countries a recognition might be required. Dependent on whether in your country of residence a national register for music therapists exists. If there is no register you need to obtain recognition first to apply for entry in the register of music therapists in Austria.
