The degree programme

You will be studying alongside people from various professions on this part-time master programme. Whether you’re an economist, a qualified practitioner in nursing or healthcare, a high-level allied health profession, a doctor or from a related occupation – you’ll benefit from a programme tailored specifically to your needs.

YOU DECIDE WHAT TOPICS AND INDUSTRIES YOU WANT TO SPECIALISE IN

There are various options for adapting your degree to your personal requirements and situation: the electives in semester 2, the practical project (Real World Case Studies) in semester 3 and the master thesis in the fourth semester.

INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

In semester 4, you will revolve around your master thesis. It’s a great opportunity to spend time abroad and write your scientific thesis there, for instance at one of our partner universities.

TIP

A particularly attractive option is the dual degree we offer in conjunction with the University of Applied Sciences Deggendorf. Besides obtaining a Master of Arts at IMC Krems, you will also be accredited with completing the Strategic and International Management programme at our partner institution.

By the way: At IMC Krems, you also have the opportunity to use our Founders Lab alongside your studies. There, students receive support in implementing their start-up ideas and are guided through potential business ventures. Start-up service at its best!

The master programme in Management of Health Institutions provides students with unrivalled opportunities to choose their own focus areas and implement modern management concepts in the health sector.

Curriculum

A formula for success: theoretical knowledge + practical experience

The programme is built on three pillars.

Semesters 1 & 3

The core subjects

In the introductory phase of the programme in semester 1, you will develop an understanding of the framework conditions of the healthcare system. Public health, the dimensions of healthcare, business models in the healthcare sector, healthcare markets and systems, healthcare economics and the framework conditions of the healthcare industry – these are just some of the topics that you will deal with in detail during your studies. On the master degree programme, you will concentrate specifically on strategic management. Always in focus: the opportunities and challenges that you and the healthcare sector will face in the coming years.

During your studies, you will also deal with impact and stakeholder management as well as change management, acquiring skills that are of great importance in times of constant change.

In order to prepare you for the future, we will provide you with a special mindset: human-centred innovation or design thinking will help you to tackle complex problems with innovative solutions. This doesn’t happen in the lecture theatre, but in practice. Using real cases from the healthcare industry, you will learn to understand problems from the perspective of those affected in semester 3. Based on the impressions gained, you will develop solutions in the form of ideas and prototypes in order to test their usefulness. We call this a Real World Case Study.

Semester 2

The specialisations

In semester 2, we give you the opportunity to tailor your studies to your personal interests. You can choose between Big Data & Digitalisation in Healthcare, Leadership and Organisation in Healthcare, Human Resource Management, Controlling and Foundation & Takeover of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.

A background in business administration is recommended for the Controlling and Human Resource Management specialisations. The specialisations take place together with students on the master degree programme in Management. Your benefit: you can benefit from the different wealth of knowledge and experience of your fellow students and expand your network.

Semesters 1–4

The electives and master thesis

Improving your career opportunities: the electives help to bring you up to speed for jobs in highly attractive business sectors. You can choose one of three majors: Tourism and Hospitality Marketing, Fashion and Lifestyle Marketing, or Retail and Shopper Marketing.

The electives account for eight hours per week during the semester and 16 ECTS credits.

During your work on the master thesis, you independently carry out academic analysis of a problem related to your elective, devising solutions that meet practical business requirements.
