A unique character
The various sites that make up IMC Krems are as diverse as the town itself – a place where historic and modern architecture combine to wonderful effect. It's easy to see why so many of our students wax lyrical about the unique charms of our university.
All 5 of our sites have one thing in common: their outstanding amenities and equipment.
Modern facilities and high-quality fixtures and fittings create environments in which we are sure you will feel comfortable – something which is very important to us. After all, you’re going to be spending a lot of time with us. At an important stage in your life. So, it goes without saying that we want to make your time here as pleasant as possible.
Welcome to IMC Campus Krems
As far as the eye can see: modern architecture and beautiful countryside.
Campus Krems is actually located in Stein. The town’s real name is Krems and Stein – two towns which have gradually merged into one. Our facilities on Campus Krems are 10 minutes’ walk from the centres of Krems and Stein, and spread across five buildings: Wing G, Wing G1, Wing D, Wing U and parts of Campus West.
At IMC Campus Krems you are almost entirely surrounded by green countryside. Set against Krems’ hillside vineyards, the grounds, with their neat lawns and inviting benches, are a perfect place to relax between lectures. The ambience of the lecture theatres and seminar rooms is equally appealing, and the ample use of glass affords some eye-catching views. From some floors you can see the Danube, Göttweig Abbey and into the Wachau valley.
Wing G1
Wing G1 is right next to Wing G, and a glazed bridge connects the first floors of both buildings.
Lectures and seminars take place on all floors, and the health labs for General Nursing can be found on the basement level.
The ground floor of Wing G1 is the location of the university’s largest indoor space, the main hall. It is used for graduation ceremonies, international conferences and many other kinds of events.
Study, learn and meet: the IMC Lounge
We employ the latest technology to make sure that studying at IMC Krems is as enjoyable and convenient as possible. We are also very aware of the importance of working and learning together. And to facilitate this, we created the highly versatile IMC Lounge in Wing G.
You can use this 250-square-metre space to work on your own or as part of a small group, or as a venue for larger gatherings. The IMC Lounge has connections to plug in your devices, along with monitors and WiFi. There’s also comfortable seating and sofas for when you want to take a break and relax.
Great neighbourhood
1 campus, 3 universities
IMC Krems, University of Continuing Education, Karl Landsteiner Privatuniversität
We’re lucky to have great neighbours. University of Continuing Education Krems and Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences are also based at Campus Krems. The Campus Library is conveniently located for everyone in the centre of campus. It has a catalogue of over 50,000 items as well as offering an inter-library lending service.
The Kolpinghaus student residence is also ideally situated, right next to the campus. It has single and double rooms which can be rented for a whole academic year, or for shorter stays. An inside tip: the breakfast buffet at Kolpinghaus is very reasonably priced and open to all – it’s a great way to start the day, especially if you’re on a tight budget.
Parking at Campus Krems
IMC Campus Krems is located in a green restricted parking zone (grüne Zone), meaning parking charges apply. If you’re coming by car, the best place to park is the Campus West multi-storey car park (Dr.-Karl-Dorrek-Strasse 23) – from there it’s only a 5-minute walk through the campus grounds to our main building.
A university campus just wouldn’t be complete without sport and exercise facilities.
From aikido to zumba: choose from a long list of courses at the University Sports Institute Krems.
Gastronomy
And because no one likes to study or exercise on an empty stomach, there are plenty of places to eat and drink on campus. Here’s a quick overview.
In Krems, we also have two locations in the historic city centre. The site on Piaristengasse was the main university building when IMC Krems opened. It is where we welcomed our first intake of 45 students back in 1994.
Lectures are held in rooms that were occupied by a Jesuit gymnasium school as early as 1616. Today, the former refectory – one of 13 lecture halls on-site – combines historical ambiance with state-of-the-art equipment.
The spacious courtyard is buzzing with life in the summer months. Come here to take a break or prepare for your next presentation. Take a seat at one of the tables and make yourself comfortable!
State-of-the-art facilities & spacious learning areas
IMC Lounges, electronic whiteboards and digital lecture timetables: don’t let the historic surroundings fool you. The whole building is equipped with the latest technology, not just the seminar and lecture rooms, but the two IMC Lounges as well.
It’s precisely this combination of history and modern technology that gives IMC Piaristengasse its very distinctive character. A tour of the site never fails to impress visitors. Piaristengasse is totally unique – and it’s part of IMC Krems.
Two of our service centres for students are located in our IMC Piaristengasse:
- The International Welcome Center – the first port of call for international full-time students, exchange enquiries and guests from abroad.
- From International Relations, our students can find out about possible stays abroad and funding programmes.
Down the Piaristenstiege into the centre of town
The historic Piaristenstiege steps take you from IMC Piaristengasse into the very centre of Krems in just 3 minutes.
The market on Pfarrplatz and the restaurants, cafés and shops around Krems’ bustling Landstrasse are all just a stone’s throw away.
You can take care of almost everything on foot – the copy shop is just around the corner from the bakery, and the supermarket only a short walk from the café. This is one of the things that makes living in Krems so pleasant.
Krems through and through: our historic Gozzoburg castle site is located on Hoher Markt – the oldest part of town – and has a character all of its own. No wonder, considering it dates back over 700 years.
The building’s unique atmosphere makes it an ideal place to hold functions and entertain visitors. The historic Wappensaal, where trials and council meetings were once held, is also a great venue for events. The whole setting is unique, just like the wine cellar, which is available to the International Wine Business bachelor degree programme. The site also includes offices as well as lecture and seminar rooms.me.
All of them are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and Wi-Fi. Our high standards for equipment unify all our locations: we aim to make your studies with us as pleasant as possible.
In the heart of the old town
IMC Gozzoburg is located in the middle of Hoher Markt, the historic centre of Krems. Pfarrplatz and Landstrasse are just around the corner.
IMC Piaristengasse is less than five minutes’ walk away. So one thing’s for sure: you’ll definitely appreciate the site’s central location.
A 6,000-square-meter research facility – and an IMC Krems location
A leading innovation and research hub
The university’s Research Institute for Applied Bioanalytics and Drug Development with state-of-the-art laboratories is located at Krems’ Technology and Research Centre (TFZ). Members of the institute form part of a wider research community of like minds. TFZ was conceived as a health technology innovation and research site.
The concept facilitates collaboration between various educational institutions including IMC Krems, University of Continuing Education Krems and Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences .
The site is also home to numerous companies, which opens up opportunities to make contact with potential employers and cooperation partners. The funding and service agencies located here, such as riz up Niederösterreichs Gründeragentur GmbH which focuses on start-ups, represent another major benefit.
The Lerchenfeld area of Krems: amenities and transport options
TFZ has its own restaurant, and nearby you’ll find a small supermarket, an Orange Wings hotel, a pharmacy and various places to eat and drink.
The site is very easy to reach from Krems as well as Vienna and St. Pölten. If you’re coming by public transport, take Stadtbus number 3 from Krems railway station and get off at Koloman-Wallisch-Strasse. We’re just a few minutes’ walk away.
Locations Horn und Mistelbach
2 additional locations for the General Nursing bachelor degree programme.
Krems is not the only place where you can study on our General Nursing bachelor programme. The course is also offered in Mistelbach and Horn – a big plus for students from the Weinviertel and Waldviertel region.
Modern facilities for a cutting-edge degree: Mistelbach
Easy to reach and with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, our smaller site in the heart of the Weinviertel region is very popular with our students.
The highlights of the location are the modern design of the lecture theatres, as well as the Health Lab, newly kitted out with all the latest technical facilities that enable practically-focused training and realistic simulations. Students can hone the skills they require for typical scenarios and complete exercises using VR glasses and simulation manikins. There is also a comfortable study lounge as well as a rooftop terrace, the perfect place to take a break on a sunny day.
Growing demand for trained nursing professionals in the region: Horn
The expert training in the field of nursing establishes a tight connection between theoretical knowledge and practical implementation through a collaboration with the Haus der Barmherzigkeit Stephansheim. The main aim of this partnership is to seamlessly incorporate the latest findings from nursing research into the daily operations of the nursing home.
Our Mistelbach location has very close ties with Landesklinikum Mistelbach hospital – not least because it is physically connected to it. Students in Mistelbach can experience nursing first hand.
Interdisciplinary exchange with the hospital’s various departments offers students direct insights into working life at the institution from their very first semester on the programme. This opens lots of doors, because students can build up a personal network of contacts while also gaining in-depth practical experience.
Our students are welcome to use the shopping and gastronomy facilities at the Landesklinikum.
