What are the formal admission requirements for degree programmes at IMC Krems? Find out here.
Get an overview of the criteria for admission to our university. We will verify whether you meet the admission requirements for your selected degree programme on an individual basis, after we have received your complete application.
Admission requirements
What are the admission requirements for the bachelor degree programme?
To qualify for admission to a university of applied sciences bachelor degree programme, you must have a proof of a general higher education entrance qualification (i.e. an Austrian secondary school leaving certificate or an equivalent qualification).
In the case of foreign certificates, we check the equivalence with the general higher education entrance qualification according to Art. 4 FHG (Fachhochschulgesetz) as amended as soon as your online application is completed. Supplementary examinations might be necessary to achieve an equivalence.
What proof of your language skills is required for our bachelor degree programme?
If you are applying for a programme taught in German and your mother tongue is not German, your application must include proof of B2 German language proficiency at the time of your application (see Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for more details). We accept the DaF (German as a foreign language) qualification.
If German is your mother tongue or you have completed a previous degree entirely in German, you do not need to provide any additional proof.
For our programmes taught in English, we’ll assess your English language proficiency at your interview, so there is no need to provide additional evidence of your English skills.
Important
Do you still need to complete your military or alternative service? If you’re a male Austrian citizen, we strongly recommend completing your compulsory national service before beginning your studies. This will allow you to finish your degree with no interruptions and start your career without delay afterwards.
What are the admission requirements for master programmes?
To qualify for a master programme, you must have completed a bachelor degree – with a workload of at least 180 ECTS and lasting at least six semesters – in a related subject, or hold an equivalent degree from a recognised Austrian or foreign higher education institution.
If your undergraduate studies are not sufficiently relevant, for instance if you’ve completed a degree in an unrelated subject, your qualifications will be assessed after we have received your completed application.
Programme-specific requirements
For some of our master degree programmes, additional specific requirements apply. Further details can be found on the respective programme page.
What if German isn’t my first language?
If you are applying for a programme which is taught in German, your application must include proof of C1 German language proficiency at the time of your application (see Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for more details). We accept the DaF (German as a foreign language) qualification.
If German is your mother tongue or you have completed a previous degree entirely in German, you do not need to provide any additional proof of German proficiency.
What language skills are required for our English language degree programmes?
As a general rule, your English language skills will be assessed during your admission interview.
You will need additional proof of your knowledge for our master degree programmes:
- International Business and Economic Diplomacy
- Marketing and
- Digital Business Innovation and Transformation
You have the following options:
Option 1: No additional proof of English proficiency is required if:
- English is your native language
or - you already uploaded a recognised English language certificate (IELTS Academic Training – at least 7.0 Overall Band Score, Cambridge Certificate – Level C1, Toefl IBT – at least 94) at the time of your online application
or - you have verifiably completed your prior studies either entirely in English or bilingually, with at least 70 ECTS of the courses taught in English.
Please upload your existing English language certificate or proof of English as the language of instruction in your prior studies in the form of a list of English-language courses with ECTS (for example, the Diploma Supplement) at the time of your application.
Option 2: A combination of an existing proof of English language skills from your prior studies and an English test is required if you have completed less than 70 ECTS of the degree programme in English. The following combinations are accepted:
- Proof of at least a 6-month semester abroad in an English-speaking country together with the EF-SET50
or - English language courses of at least 10 ECTS in your prior degree programme, together with the EF-SET 50
Please upload proof of your semester abroad or the English language courses in your prior degree programme at the time of the application. The EF-SET 50 with the result level C1 can be submitted later until the start of the programme.
Option 3: An English language certificate is required if the aforementioned options 1 or 2 do not apply to you. The following English language certificates are accepted:
- IELTS Academic Training – minimum 7.0 Overall Band Score
or - Cambridge Certificate – level C1
or - Toefl IBT – minimum 94
You can submit the English language certificate until the start of your studies.
Option 1 and 2 do not apply to you and you still need an English language certificate as proof of your English language skills? Then make sure to contact the British Council regarding your IELTS certificate.
Important
Do you still need to complete your military or alternative service? If you’re a male Austrian citizen, we strongly recommend completing your compulsory national service before beginning your studies. This will allow you to finish your degree with no interruptions and start your career without delay afterwards.
Accreditation and transfer to a higher semester
Do you have previous studies or subject-related competences that you would like to have credited?
If you want to apply for a lateral entry or credit for your acquired knowledge, submit the complete documents as part of your online application.
Important: Please note that an application does not automatically lead to accreditation.
Providing the evidence
Upload all detailed documents on the content, number of hours and learning outcome description of the training/prior knowledge to be credited in “Further documents (optional)” of your online application.
Please note that accreditation is only possible for courses related to the professional field, taking into account the qualifications framework.
Here you can find the form for recognition from the non-higher education sector. Please complete the form only if you want to achieve a recognition from the non-higher education sector.
Admission of non-degree (visiting) students
Are you interested in attending courses at IMC Krems as a non-degree student?
Then the first step is submitting an application.
To do this, please complete the Application for admission as a non-degree student form and send it to the Office of the Chair of the Academic Board.
Good to know
- As a non-degree student, you will not be awarded an academic degree because you only complete part of a programme.
- You can only attend courses if there are places available, and for which you are suitably qualified.
- If you need to complete a conversion course (Anpassungslehrgang) or specific courses for the purposes of verification of the equivalence (Gleichwertigkeitsprüfung) of a health sciences degree on the basis of a decision from the respective ministry, you can complete such courses as a non-degree student at IMC Krems.
Please note: non-degree students must also pay tuition fees each semester. We must receive payment of your tuition fees for the entire semester before the start of the first course that you attend.
Students with disabilities
At IMC Krems we are committed to the inclusion of students but also already applicants with disabilities. We have set up a special unit, which works on a case-by-case basis to create the best possible environment and facilitate academic success for students with disabilities.
