Tourism students explore the future of tourism at ITB Berlin

Students of the bachelor degree programme Tourism and Leisure Management recently had the opportunity to visit ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade show. During the visit, valuable insights into current developments and trends in the global tourism industry were offered and several opportunities to connect theory from their classes with real-world perspectives were given.

This excursion provided inspiring impressions and valuable learning experiences into current industry developments and trends and helped the students connect their academic education with professional practice in the tourism field.

Throughout the three-day visit, the students explored numerous exhibition halls that represented destinations, organizations and other major stakeholders of the tourism sector. The internationality and versatility of the industry was shown during the event.

In addition to the exhibition, a broad range of presentations and discussions at ITB Convention addressing current trends and challenges in tourism were attended by the students. Topics such as AI, sustainability, digital transformation and changing traveller behaviour were part of several conferences.

The visit of the event also demonstrated how diverse and interconnected the tourism sector truly is and gave the students firsthand insights into several different fields in which they can spend their practical training semester, which takes place in the fourth semester.

Beyond the ITB, students also had the opportunity to explore the city of Berlin, a vibrant destination.
