As the winter semester gets underway, the IMC Krems campus is once again buzzing with activity. The lecture halls and laboratories of the University of Applied Sciences are becoming a meeting point for more than 4,000 students from around the world. Among them are around 1,600 first-year students who will begin their studies in the coming weeks.

Rooted locally, connected globally
While international students often choose to study in major metropolitan areas, hundreds of young people consciously choose IMC Krems every year. Here, they find one of Austria’s most international higher education institutions, applied research, a personal learning environment and a strong emphasis on practical experience.
At the same time, the high demand from Lower Austria highlights the institution’s strong local roots, offering international study opportunities close to home.

Across our 28 degree programmes, people from more than 70 countries come together to learn, develop new perspectives and build lasting friendships. Our university also maintains a strong connection to the region, with around 50 per cent of our students coming from Lower Austria. Students at IMC Krems engage with the major challenges and opportunities of our time. From digitalisation and artificial intelligence to health sciences, life sciences, sustainability, entrepreneurship and management, they explore topics that will have a lasting impact on society and the economy.
“Our task is to help young people translate knowledge into tangible impact. In the field of health sciences, it becomes clear how important practice-oriented education, academic excellence and collaboration are in addressing the challenges of the future successfully,” explains Andreas Lichtenwörther, Academic Head and Programme Director of the Physiotherapy degree programme.
Innovation and entrepreneurship also play a central role: “Today’s generation of students does not simply want to prepare for existing professions; they want to contribute actively to solving current and future challenges. Entrepreneurial thinking, innovative strength and the ability to identify and seize opportunities are becoming increasingly important,” says Tanja Ihden, Deputy Academic Head and Programme Director of the StartUp Management degree programme.
A campus full of connections
With the start of the semester, lecture halls and laboratories are once again filled with life. Over the coming weeks, orientation events, introductory programmes and numerous activities will help new students settle in and encourage a strong sense of community.

The new academic year begins with impressive figures: more than 4,000 students from over 70 countries are studying at IMC Krems. With more than 220 partner universities worldwide, the university offers numerous opportunities for international experience. Around 30 per cent of students take advantage of these mobility opportunities.
The current academic portfolio comprises 15 bachelor degree programmes and 13 master degree programmes, with more than 50 per cent taught in English.
The close connection between higher education and professional practice is reflected in a graduate employment rate of 99 per cent. The alumni network now includes around 15,000 graduates worldwide.
