Catalina completed her bachelor degree in Informatics at IMC Krems in 2023. She developed a particular interest in the intersection of computer science, data analysis and artificial intelligence. During her studies, she gained her first practical experience at Voith Turbo in Germany, where she worked as a Data Scientist Student. At the same time, she was actively involved in the student union (ÖH IMC Krems), representing the Life Sciences area – a testament to her sense of responsibility and versatility.

Shaping the future with data
Career as a Data Scientist at OMV
Today, Catalina works as a Data Scientist at OMV in Vienna. Since April 2024, she has been part of the SAP Reporting & Analytics team, developing data-driven solutions for an international energy company. Prior to this, she completed an internship at OMV in the Content & Workflow Applications department. Alongside her professional role, she is pursuing a master degree in Artificial Intelligence at Johannes Kepler University Linz. This combination of academic research and practical experience makes her an expert at the interface between business and technology.
Women in Informatics – a powerful statement

What did your studies at IMC Krems contribute to your current role as a Data Scientist?
My studies at IMC Krems provided a strong balance of theory and hands-on practice, which has been essential in my role as a Data Scientist. The programme exposed me to diverse technologies and disciplines across the IT landscape, building the versatility needed in data-driven work. It also emphasised the full lifecycle of IT projects, from gathering business requirements to developing and deploying solutions, giving me a holistic understanding of how technical execution supports business impact.
What experiences did you gain through international internships and projects, and why are they so valuable for your career?
My international experience allowed me to grow both professionally and personally. Working on projects with people from different countries helped me strengthen my communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills. These experiences also gave me a broader understanding of how data and technology can drive innovation in different industries, which continues to influence how I think and approach my work today.
What advice would you give to young women who are considering studying informatics or artificial intelligence?
Believe in your abilities and pursue your curiosity with confidence. Informatics and AI are creative, problem-solving disciplines that need diverse perspectives. Stay curious, keep learning and don’t let stereotypes limit your ambition or your dreams.
