Her journey in chemistry began at IMC Krems with a bachelor degree in Chemistry (formerly Applied Chemistry). This programme gave her a solid foundation in chemical sciences and sparked her interest in sustainable practices within the field.

A transformative semester in Prague

One of the highlights of Lena’s studies was her practical training semester at Charles University in Prague. She was captivated by the city’s historic charm, the lively university atmosphere and the people she met. During her stay, she worked on the nickel-catalyzed synthesis of helical dispiroindenofluorenediones and their transformation into diazahelicenes, which also became the focus of her bachelor thesis.

Her dedication and research were recognised when part of her work contributed to a publication from the Catalysis and Organic Synthesis research group at the Department of Organic Chemistry, Charles University Prague. The study was published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS).

Looking ahead

Excited to continue her journey in sustainable chemistry, Lena values each step forward in her master degree programme. She is proud to be among the first students of this new programme at IMC Krems, exploring innovative approaches to chemistry while staying committed to sustainability.
