Internationality begins with arrival

More than 70 nations on campus, over 220 partner universities worldwide and an international environment that shapes everyday student life: IMC Krems is one of Austria's most international universities of applied sciences. Internationality does not begin in the classroom. It starts with the very first contact with our international students.
In the winter semester 2026/27, IMC Krems welcomes 526 international students from around the world. Among them are 420 international degree-seeking students beginning a full degree programme in Krems, as well as 106 international mobility students joining the university through exchange, dual-degree or partner programmes. Throughout their first days and weeks, they are supported by Doris Molnar, Fanni Pontyos and Sandra Eisner from the International Welcome Center team.
Comprehensive support from the International Welcome Center
To ensure a smooth transition to life in Austria and at IMC Krems, the International Welcome Center supports students long before their arrival. Through online information sessions, they receive practical guidance on topics such as health insurance, administrative procedures, working in Austria, culture, society and the Austrian higher education system. This enables students to prepare for life in Krems and have important questions answered before they arrive.
Once students reach Krems, the Welcome Days focus on getting to know each other, exploring the campus and building connections. Through meet-and-greet sessions, campus tours, orientation events and team-building activities, students become familiar with their new surroundings while meeting fellow students from across the globe. Exchange students can also take part in additional sessions on intercultural competence and stress management.
Coffee meet-ups, game nights and buddy matching
A particular focus is placed on helping students settle in socially. Student Assistants Sarah and Elena support a wide range of activities and help international students become part of the IMC community from the very beginning. Whether at coffee meet-ups, game nights, buddy matching events, walks or hiking trips, the Welcome Days create opportunities for meaningful encounters, new friendships and international networks.
At the same time, students discover their new home away from home. Excursions to Vienna, trips to the Wachau region, guided city tours of Krems, visits to Winzer Krems, scavenger hunts and outdoor activities offer unique insights into Austria and the surrounding region.
Genuine internationality grows through connection
The Welcome Days are far more than an orientation programme. They are an important contribution to the lived internationality at IMC Krems. Genuine internationality grows through personal encounters, mutual understanding and shared experiences. This is what defines the international campus community at IMC Krems and creates the foundation for students from around the world to feel welcome, supported and at home from day one.
