IMC Krems ranks second in the ranking of funded start-ups per student

IMC Krems stands out with a high rate of funded start-ups per 1,000 students

In the current ‘Entrepreneurial Impact of Academic Institutions 2025’ ranking by the Technical University of Munich, IMC Krems achieved an outstanding 2nd place in the Austria-wide comparison based on the number of start-ups funded per 1,000 students in the period 2014–2024.

Prof. (FH) Dr Tanja Ihden, Head of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and the Start-up Management degree programme, plays a key role in shaping the entrepreneurial culture at IMC Krems.

The ranking, conducted by the Chair of Strategy and Organisation at the Technical University of Munich, analyses more than 51,000 start-ups in the DACH region and considers start-ups with an institutional connection, i.e. studies or work at a university. The relative category considers start-ups with documented financing, for example through business angels, venture capital or subsidies, in relation to the number of students.

‘Our university sees entrepreneurial thinking and action as a central social task. The fact that we are so far ahead in the ranking of funded start-ups per student confirms our commitment to the Third Mission – practical, future-oriented and with a clear international focus,’ explains IMC CEO Udo Brändle.

Bachelor degree programme in Start-up Management

IMC Krems offers exactly the right degree programme for future founders: Start-up management. Here, students acquire the knowledge and skills they need to become future-oriented and adaptable leaders who are ready to make their mark in the dynamic world of start-ups with an entrepreneurial mindset.

Networking is a central focus: participation in start-up conferences and hackathons or joint stays in co-working spaces are therefore also of great importance during the course of study. In addition, a large proportion of the teaching staff are entrepreneurs who pass on their experience and knowledge from their own start-ups to the students. This means that students not only gain theoretical knowledge, but also practical insights and first-hand experience that deepen their understanding of the requirements and challenges of start-up management.

In addition, the IMC supports students in implementing their start-up ideas in the specially created Founders Lab while they are still studying.

Applications for the Bachelor's programme in Start-up Management are still being accepted.
