When Mykhailo Poienko joined the Informatics bachelor degree programme at IMC Krems, he already knew that software engineering was more than a personal interest.
Originally from Ukraine, he moved to Austria with the ambition to work in a field that connects technical innovation with real applications. The international environment at IMC Krems and the programme’s strong hands-on approach gave him exactly that.
In his second year, Mykhailo worked as a Student Researcher in the field of autonomous driving. This experience opened the door to a world where theory and real industry challenges meet. Taking part in ongoing research projects helped him build practical skills and sharpen his interest in intelligent systems.
Mykhailo joined the University of Innsbruck as a Software Developer during his mandatory internship. These 6 months became a defining phase in his studies. He collaborated with experienced developers, worked with modern technologies and discovered what it means to deliver solutions in a professional environment. The insights he gained during this time still shape his work today.
After graduating with distinction, Mykhailo knew he wanted to continue his academic journey at IMC Krems. The new Engineering Responsible AI Systems master degree programme matched his interests perfectly. It combines advanced AI development with ethical, sustainable and responsible thinking, an aspect that he considers essential for the future of technology.
Looking back, Mykhailo describes his time at IMC Krems as one of the best investments in his personal and professional growth. The combination of applied learning, research experience and an international learning environment prepared him to take an active role in shaping the development of responsible and trustworthy AI systems.
