Story
From Krems to Monterrey: Nikola’s journey of learning and adventure

Why IMC Krems felt like the right fit
For Nikola, what sets IMC Krems apart is the close connection between students and professors. “They are always supportive, open-minded, and willing to share their professional insights,” she says. This hands-on, practical approach to learning makes every course engaging and relevant. Beyond academics, the welcoming campus atmosphere has helped her feel part of a true community from day one.
A semester abroad in Mexico
Eager to experience life beyond the familiar, Nikola chose to spend her exchange semester at Universidad de Monterrey (UDEM) in Mexico. Her decision was driven by the desire to immerse herself fully in a new culture, not just as a tourist, but as a resident student. UDEM offered the perfect balance of academic quality and cultural immersion, with courses taught in English that complemented her studies at IMC Krems.
Monterrey instantly won Nikola over. “The city and the people made me feel at home from the very first moment,” she recalls. From the vibrant local life to the friendly community on campus, she felt safe, welcomed and inspired to explore. Some of her most treasured memories came from trips with friends to the Yucatán Peninsula, Cancún, Chichén Itzá, Mexico City and Mazatlán, adventures filled with unforgettable moments.
Nikola’s advice for future exchange students is practical yet encouraging: even a basic knowledge of Spanish can enhance your experience, making interactions smoother and deeper.
Life back in Krems
Returning to Krems, Nikola appreciates the city’s calm and cozy atmosphere. “It’s a true student town, small, safe, and with a great community feeling,” she says. Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time with friends and embracing the relaxed pace of life that the town offers.
Looking ahead
For Nikola, the exchange semester wasn’t just an academic requirement, it was a transformative adventure. “If you are considering going on exchange or studying abroad, my advice is simple: go for it! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that helps you grow, connect, and see the world from a completely new perspective,” she reflects.
Her journey illustrates how IMC Krems empowers students to combine rigorous study with real-world experiences, preparing them for both professional success and personal growth.
