21-year-old Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology student Hannah Oberwagner is currently in her third semester at IMC Krems.
Studying at IMC Krems has been one of the best decisions she has ever made. When she first arrived, she didn’t expect how quickly this small city would start to feel like home. She met wonderful people who soon became close friends and created memories she will always cherish.
Hannah has always been fascinated by the human body and how it works. When she discovered the Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology bachelor degree programme at IMC Krems, it immediately caught her attention. She enjoys the theoretical part of the course and that it is taught entirely in English, which opens up opportunities to work internationally in the future.
The learning atmosphere is one of her favourite aspects of studying. Small groups make it easy to ask questions and take part in discussions. The lecturers are approachable and always willing to help, even by email if something is unclear. “The relationship between students and lecturers is open and respectful, which makes you feel comfortable and supported,” she says.
What Hannah particularly values is the balance between theory and practice. Whenever something new is learned in class, students soon apply it in the lab, which deepens understanding and makes learning more exciting. Her favourite courses so far include Anatomy and Physiology, Human Diseases, Cell Biology and Cell Physiology. “Understanding how everything in the human body is connected is challenging but incredibly fascinating,” she adds.
Outside of her studies, Hannah loves to travel, one of her biggest passions. Lately, she has already visited London, Mexico, Italy, France and Greece, and is always inspired by the people, food and cultures she encounters. For her upcoming internship abroad, she hopes to go to Spain or the UK to gain international experience and explore new environments.
Moving to Krems without knowing anyone was a big step, but it taught her to be independent, make friends and solve problems on her own. “IMC Krems has made me more confident and adaptable. I’ve learned to study more efficiently and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.”
Studying in such an international setting has helped Hannah grow both personally and academically. Working with students from all over the world has improved her communication skills and given her a global mindset, something that will be invaluable in her future career.
If she had to describe the IMC Krems community, Hannah would choose the words diverse, open-minded and supportive. Her advice for new students? “Enjoy the start of your studies! Make friends, go out and have fun. University is important, but so is your personal life – enjoy it to the fullest.”
Reflecting on her journey, Hannah says: “IMC Krems has taught me so much for life and I’m truly thankful that I made this decision.”
