Dual degree opportunities: Expanding horizons through international experience

Studying at IMC Krems offers students many ways to gain international experience. One of the most rewarding options is a dual degree. This unique opportunity allows students to graduate with two internationally recognised degrees, one from IMC Krems and one from a partner university abroad.

Jan Krameš, a graduate of the bachelor degree programme in International Business Management, completed a dual degree and says: “If you have the chance, do not hesitate to take it. I also had doubts at first, there were a lot of factors influencing my decision, but looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made.”

What a dual degree is

A dual degree is an academic programme jointly developed by two higher education institutions. It enables students to complete part of their studies at a partner university, with both institutions recognising coursework and achievements. After successfully completing the requirements of both institutions, students receive two separate degrees. This structure is designed to provide an international academic experience without the need to enrol in two full-length programmes.

International partnerships

IMC Krems maintains strong partnerships with renowned universities around the world to make dual degrees possible. These include KEDGE Business School in France, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Finland, Turku University of Applied Sciences in Finland, Technische Hochschule Deggendorf in Germany, University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia, University of Bergamo in Italy and Linköping University in Sweden.

Depending on the chosen degree programme, students have the chance to spend part of their studies at one of these partner institutions and graduate with two degrees. For example, students in the bachelor degree programme International Business Management can obtain an additional degree from KEDGE Business School, while master degree students in International Business and Economic Diplomacy can complete a dual degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia.

Benefits of a dual degree

A dual degree is more than an academic achievement. It is a personal and professional milestone. Graduates gain international qualifications that strengthen their position in the job market and open doors to global career opportunities. Studying at two institutions also means experiencing different academic systems, teaching methods and cultural environments, which fosters adaptability and intercultural competence.

Another advantage is that, in many cases, students do not pay additional tuition fees at the partner university. Since both institutions align their curricula, students can complete the dual degree in less time than pursuing two separate programmes.

From doubt to decision: an alumni perspective

Many students hesitate before committing to a dual degree. Questions about finances, logistics and the intensity of the programme are common. Jan Krameš, alumnus of the bachelor degree programme International Business Management and newly appointed Alumni Ambassador for the Prague Alumni Chapter, knows this feeling well:

“If you have the chance, do not hesitate to take it. I also had doubts at first, there were a lot of factors influencing my decision, but looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made.”

His experience reflects what many dual degree graduates share: stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to life-changing opportunities.

A strong start to an international career

A dual degree at IMC Krems is ideal for students who want to gain a global perspective and expand their academic and professional network. It offers the chance to deepen knowledge, gain international experience and earn two degrees in one study path.

Students interested in this opportunity can contact the International Office or their programme director to learn more about partner universities and the application process. A dual degree is a challenge, but for many, it becomes one of the most valuable experiences of their studies.
