Yolanda Salinas Soler Wins the NIEDERÖSTEREICHERIN AWARD 2026 in the Education & Technology Category

Science Making a Difference to Society and the Environment
Yolanda Salinas Soler teaches on the Bachelor's degree programme in Chemistry and the Master's degree programme in Sustainable Chemistry and Digital Processing, and represents research excellence with a strong societal impact. As a professor and scientist, she combines innovative materials science with sustainable solutions to current challenges in the fields of health and environmental protection.
Nanomaterials for Medicine and Environmental Technologies
Her research focuses on controllably degradable nanomaterials and functional materials for biomedical, environmental and technological applications. In particular, she is engaged in developing intelligent nanostructures capable of interacting selectively with biological systems, for example in targeted drug delivery for cancer therapy and in advanced diagnostic systems.
One of her current research priorities is the development of active, biodegradable nanomaterials for the removal of microplastics from wastewater. Her team pursues innovative approaches that place sustainability, environmental compatibility and the principles of green chemistry at the heart of their work.
International Career and Role Model
Through her international scientific career, her commitment to research and teaching, and her efforts to increase the visibility of women in science, Yolanda Salinas Soler has become one of the leading figures in Lower Austria’s research landscape. Following her studies and doctoral research in Spain, as well as research appointments in London, she moved to Austria in 2015, where she established herself as an expert in polymer and materials chemistry.
Her academic career led to her habilitation at Johannes Kepler University Linz and, in 2025, to her appointment as Professor at IMC Krems. Today, she conducts research into sustainable functional nanomaterials for applications in medicine and environmental technology.
The NIEDERÖSTERREICHERIN AWARD 2026 recognises her outstanding scientific achievements and her contribution to a more sustainable and innovative future.
