Award for Groundbreaking Research

Adrian Lendvai Receives the tecnet|accent Innovation Award 2024/25

For his outstanding research work, 28-year-old young scientist Adrian Lendvai, MSc, a research associate at IMC Krems, was awarded second place in the tecnet|accent Innovation Award 2024/25. The official award ceremony took place in St. Pölten, in the presence of Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.

Focus: The Extracellular Matrix of Allografts

Lendvai is conducting research within the REGIMOPROT project, focusing on the characterisation of the extracellular matrix in allografts – bone implants derived from donated human tissue. The aim is to identify, using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry analyses, the proteins that play a crucial role in the bone regeneration process.
"We are studying the proteins contained in the implants to better understand their impact on healing and thereby further improve the quality of these medical products," explains Lendvai. The allografts are processed by Cells + Tissuebank Austria, a project partner of IMC Krems, using their proprietary Allotec® method. This process ensures not only the highest standards of quality and safety but also preserves the biological properties of the tissue – a critical factor for medical success.

A Passion for Technology Meets Medical Curiosity

Lendvai is particularly fascinated by the technology itself: "Mass spectrometry is constantly evolving. New equipment enables increasingly precise analyses. This opens up exciting prospects – both for research and for industry."
Lendvai’s academic career began after completing his HTL (Higher Technical Education Institute) diploma in mechanical engineering, followed by Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at IMC Krems. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Regenerative Medicine at the University for Continuing Education Krems. His decision to embark on doctoral studies was made spontaneously after his current supervisor, Prof. Dr Harald Hundsberger, introduced him to the REGIMOPROT project.
"What fascinates me about research is that it helps you grow not only professionally but also personally. You learn to deal with setbacks, develop perseverance – and sometimes discover entirely new sides of yourself."
