Sustainable Development of Artificial Intelligence: The Way Ahead

Artificial Intelligence is increasingly shaping our lives in different ways in a rapidly changing world. The main topic of this lecture is to give insights into the current sustainability challenges of AI and possible ways ahead, especially focusing on the climate crisis. Societal and technical approaches will be highlighted and a special focus will be placed on the combination of symbolic and data-driven approaches to AI in what is known as Neurosymbolic (or Hybrid) AI.

The lecture will be held in English.

Lectures for Future is an interdisciplinary lecture series that has been offered at various Austrian universities since the winter semester of 2019.
