Destinations today face the challenge of offering memorable guest experiences while safeguarding a sustainable future for their communities. This is especially pressing in rural and nature-based regions where climate change is transforming the very landscapes tourism relies on. A shift towards regenerative and de-growth approaches signals new thinking in tourism development.

In her lecture, Dr. Alice Wanner will show why sustainability in tourism must extend beyond environmental issues to include social well-being and resilience, and how innovative, forward-looking planning can help destinations create thriving, sustainable communities for residents and visitors alike.
