CHE Ranking: IMC Krems among the top groups

The CHE University Ranking is regarded as the most comprehensive and detailed ranking of universities and universities of applied sciences in Germany and Austria. In addition to facts about degree programmes, teaching, facilities and research, it includes student assessments of the study conditions at their institution. Comparative criteria are thus available to prospective students, alongside a wealth of descriptive features in teaching and learning that help them choose the programme that best suits their needs.
Top scores for internationalisation, organisation and practical relevance
The CHE University Ranking is subject-specific and uses ranking groups instead of individual ranking positions. It is overseen by academic and subject-specific advisory boards. Both IMC Krems degree programmes were placed in the top groups for the following categories:
- International orientation
- Links to professional practice
- Graduation within an appropriate timeframe
- Support at the beginning of studies
- Third-party funding per professorship
- (Cooperative) doctorates within three years
The detailed evaluation for Chemistry reveals that the relevance and up-to-dateness of the teaching content scored well above the average for all institutions. In the area of course organisation, access to courses and class sizes were rated positively. Student support from teaching staff and opportunities to retake exams also received very high ratings. Particularly high scores were awarded for the number and quality of available rooms and, in the IT equipment category, the quality of Wi-Fi coverage across campus and the support offered for IT-related issues. The condition, accessibility and technical equipment of laboratories and study areas were rated far above average, as were access to lab internships, lab supervision by assistants, and the integration of theoretical and practical phases.
Biotechnology received similarly high scores: availability and quality of facilities, practical orientation and course organisation were particularly well rated. For both programmes, the international focus of teaching and learning – including support for study abroad, internationalisation@home and student mobility – achieved eight out of ten points and ranked in the top group.
Positive feedback from students
“The excellent performance of our science programmes in the CHE Ranking confirms our high standards in terms of educational quality. It is a wonderful testament to the dedication of our entire team,” says Ulrike Prommer, CEO of IMC Krems.
The quality of teaching staff was also rated very positively by students. One comment stated: “All lecturers on our programme are highly experienced, and it’s great to work and collaborate with them. They make the lectures interesting and interactive and create a friendly, relaxed classroom environment.” Another enthusiastic review read: “All the courses we take during our three-year programme are truly essential and very interesting, interactive and exciting. The organisation is almost perfect – there have never been any issues in this area.”
